Salary: £36,050.00 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Additional hours may be required in order to fulfil the post’s requirements; additional hours will be released in the form of lieu hours.

Purpose of the Role
This role is a key position within the Technical Department, they will support the safe and effective delivery of all productions, events, and activities at Jersey Opera House, on the main stage, in the studio, and as part of an outreach programme. They will be involved in the setup, operation, and removal of technical systems and scenery for touring productions, house productions and community users, ensuring high production standards and safety compliance. Supporting other members of the Technical Department, guiding and overseeing Casual Technicians, along with assisting with the development of Technical Interns will be a key focus of the role.
Maintenance of lighting, sound, AV, and stage systems, is a core focus of the department when dark, scheduling tasks and ensuring stocks of parts and consumables are available in house. The location of Jersey Opera House brings a unique series of challenges and relies on the Technical Department running at full capability as much as reasonably practicable.
The role gives a unique opportunity to work alongside artists and production companies to create new production elements, adapt their existing shows and recreate production elements within a ‘Fly Away’ venue.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate and maintain lighting, sound, AV, and stage equipment for all events.
• Assist with get-ins, fit-ups, and get-outs for visiting productions.
• Supervise freelance, casual, and student technicians as required.
• Liaise with visiting production teams in advance to meet technical requirements.
• Liaise with touring personnel on site to ensure that the highest possible standards are achieved.
• Communicate and collaborate with others within the Technical Department and across the wider organisation.
• Deputise for Technical Manager as team lead during pre-rig, fit-up, focus, plotting, rehearsal, show and get-out sessions.
• Maintain and test emergency, stage, and general lighting systems.
• Monitor technical stock levels and ensure equipment is safe and functional.
• Support general maintenance tasks within the theatre.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and licensing requirements.
• Attend staff and departmental meetings as needed.
• Undertake professional development, health and safety, and work-related training as deemed necessary.
• Comply with all Jersey Opera House’s policies.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Undertake equipment maintenance and testing, i.e. PAT.
• Undertake building inspections and regular testing programs, i.e. fire detection systems, emergency lighting tests.
• Attend training to become a building First Aider.
• Attend training to become a building Fire Marshall.
• Attend training appropriate to the role within the organisation, i.e. working at height, manual handling, COSHH, etc.
• Undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required, including for non-show related projects.
Person Specification:
• Proven experience in technical theatre operations.
• Competency in lighting and sound systems.
• Knowledge of and experience in the operation counterweight flying systems.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• A proactive, team-oriented attitude with a commitment to excellence.
• Understand CAD drawings.
• Understand lighting infrastructure systems, i.e., Art-Net, sACN, DMX.
• Operation and programming ability of EOS based control consoles for static and intelligent lighting.
• Understand sound infrastructure systems, i.e., Dante, Optocore.
• Operation and programming ability of DiGiCo audio consoles and peripherals.
• Ability to rig temporary systems in accordance with LOLER directives.
• Understanding and operation of visualisation software systems, i.e., Vectorworks, WYSIWYG.
• Understanding of audio control software, QLab, Array Calc, R1, Soundscape, Wireless Systems Manager, Wavetool, Wireless Workbench.
• Understanding of rigging control systems and their operation.
• Ability to implement lighting designs, both touring supplied, and house designed (rigging, focus, etc.)
• Ability to implement sound designs, both touring supplied, and house designed (rigging, etc.)
• Ability to implement construction of touring and house designed set.
• Competency within software packages, such as Microsoft Office, Teams, OneDrive, etc.
