Jersey Opera House to Stage Its First Professional Pantomime This Christmas
Wednesday 11 March 2026
Jersey Opera House has announced it is seeking a new Chair of its Board, as the historic theatre enters an important new phase following its reopening after five years of closure and a major government-funded refurbishment.
The appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the island’s leading cultural institution. With the theatre reopening in Autumn 2025 and a new Chief Executive Officer appointed earlier this year, the organisation is now focused on shaping its long-term strategy, strengthening governance, and ensuring the Opera House continues to thrive as the cultural heart of Jersey.
The Chair will work closely with the Board and Chief Executive Officer to guide the organisation through this next chapter of renewal and growth. The role will involve helping to shape the theatre’s strategic direction, supporting the development of a sustainable financial model, and acting as an ambassador for the organisation with government, funders, artists and the wider community.
Sebastian Warrack, Chief Executive Officer of Jersey Opera House, said:
“The reopening of Jersey Opera House marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this remarkable theatre. We now have a real opportunity to shape its future for the next generation. We are looking for a Chair who will bring strategic insight, strong governance experience and a genuine passion for the role the arts play in our community.
This is a significant leadership opportunity to help guide one of Jersey’s most treasured cultural institutions as we build a resilient and ambitious future.”
Standing at the heart of St Helier since 1865, Jersey Opera House has long been a cornerstone of the island’s cultural life. Following its recent refurbishment, the theatre now combines historic architectural character with modern facilities capable of hosting a wide range of performances, from major touring productions and orchestral concerts to community events and educational programmes.
The Opera House is committed to playing a central role in Jersey’s cultural future, supporting local creative talent while welcoming national and international productions to the island. The new Chair will join an experienced Board and work alongside CEO Sebastian Warrack, who took up his post in January 2026. Together, they will lead the organisation as it builds a resilient and sustainable future while continuing to inspire audiences and support Jersey’s vibrant creative community.
The role is expected to require an initial time commitment of around eight days per month during the early phase of appointment, reflecting the scale of ambition and opportunity ahead. Applications for the role are now open, with the closing date set for 8th April.
