Ensemble Baroque de Rennes: Filles du Roy (The King’s Princesses)

Join Ensemble Baroque de Rennes on a journey to the New World. Follow in the musical footsteps of the ‘Les Filles du Roy’ or ‘The Kings' Princesses’: the orphans of Brittany who, in the seventeenth century, were married to men across the ocean.

These heroic women made a long and arduous journey into the unknown ultimately becoming the mothers of New France.

With instruments of the epoque (soprano, viola da gamba, baroque violin, harpsichord), listen to the music and poetry of their lives: the songs of their childhood, balls held in their honour and the new, exciting music of their new home, including pieces such as Iesous Ahatonhia (Huron Carol), Ah ma voisine ("Ah, My Neighbour") and Symphonies pour les Soupers du Roy.

The Rennes Baroque Ensemble was launched in 2016, which performs on period instruments and is dedicated to bringing both well-known and lesser-known works of the Baroque repertoire to audiences, spanning from the 16th to the 18th centuries.

Above all, their aim is to share the keys to understanding Baroque music and the arts it encounters, so that audiences may experience a language of sound composed for both soul and body, a true "medicine for the soul.” This performance is in association with Alliance Francaişe Jersey.
