Jack and the Beanstalk Relaxed Performance

Enjoy all the fun and magic of Jack and the Beanstalk in a more relaxed theatre environment.

Our Relaxed Performance is for anyone who would benefit from a less formal theatre experience. This might include autistic and neurodivergent people, those with learning difficulties or additional needs, people living with dementia, families with younger children, or anyone who simply feels they would be more comfortable in a relaxed setting.

Everyone is welcome, and you do not need to have a diagnosed condition or disability to attend.

What is a Relaxed Performance?

The story, characters and fun of the pantomime remain the same, but we make some adjustments to the performance and auditorium to help reduce anxiety and make the experience more comfortable.

For this performance:

• The house lights will remain slightly raised during most of the show.
• Loud sound effects and altered voices will be reduced.
• There will be no pyrotechnics or strobe lighting.
• Flashing merchandise will not be permitted in the auditorium.
• You are welcome to move around if you need to.
• You can leave the auditorium and return at any point during the performance.
• Some of the cast will welcome the audience before the show and introduce the characters.
• Some theatrical effects will still take place, including moments when the auditorium may become dark for a short period. We will let you know before these happen.
• Haze and some on-stage effects will still be used.

The production's Relaxed Performance guidance specifically allows audiences to move around and enter or leave the auditorium freely as needed.

There is no expectation to sit still or remain quiet throughout the performance.

If you or someone in your party needs to move, make noise, step outside or come back into the auditorium, that's absolutely fine.

Choosing your seats

We have adapted the auditorium layout for this performance to give customers more space and provide additional accessible seating.

Some areas of the Stalls are therefore not available to book online. This doesn't mean they are sold out. These seats are being held so our Box Office team can talk to you about what would make your visit most comfortable and help find the best seating for your needs.

This could include:

• Additional space around your party.
• Easy access in and out of your row.
• Space for a wheelchair or mobility aid.
• Seating where you can use a phone or tablet screen to help with regulation.
• Being closer to or further away from the stage.
• Sitting somewhere that makes it easier to move around during the performance.

If you are unsure where would be best, please contact our Box Office team. You don't need to explain or provide details of a diagnosis – we simply want to understand what would make your visit more comfortable.

Wheelchair access

For this performance, Rows K–M in the Stalls will be removed to create eight additional wheelchair spaces, alongside our four existing wheelchair spaces at the rear of the Stalls.

This means we can accommodate up to 12 wheelchair users for this performance, subject to seating requirements.

Customers using the additional wheelchair area in Rows K–M will enter the auditorium via our Seaton Place entrance, providing direct access into the auditorium. Our team will explain the arrangements when you book.

Carers and companions

Complimentary carer/companion tickets are not limited to wheelchair users.

If you need someone to accompany you in order to access and enjoy your visit, please speak to our Box Office team when booking so we can help arrange appropriate seating for you both.

Using a phone or tablet to regulate

We understand that some customers may use a phone, tablet or another screen to help them regulate.

We have designated an area towards the rear of the Stalls for customers who may need to use a screen during the performance. Our Box Office team can help you book seating within this area. The planning guidance recommends placing customers who may use screens towards the rear of the auditorium.

Bringing younger children

Relaxed Performances can also be a great introduction to theatre for younger children.

If you're worried that your child might not sit through the whole show, make noise or need to leave the auditorium, please don't be.

It's OK to move. It's OK to make noise. It's OK to leave. And it's OK to come back.

Our Upper Circle will also be available for general booking and may be a good option for families who would like the freedom of a more flexible theatre experience.
