Jersey Opera House Update
It is now five months since we had to close our doors on the 26 March and although we understand that here has been an easing of the restraints attached to lockdown for us as a theatre it is too soon to consider an opening date. We will therefore remain closed until spring 2021 and will keep you all updated on when reopening will be possible in a safe and controlled way. All of our shows this year have been cancelled or provisionally moved to 2021 or 2022. We also have to consider the financial viability of opening under social distancing guidelines which currently when the fees, travel, accommodation costs and reduced seating capacity are factored in make the situation unfeasible.
Whilst our offices are closed some of us are still working remotely and focusing our efforts on the survival of the Opera House and ensuring that when we are able we can welcome you all back in 2021 with a new programme. Our endeavours are also occupied in ensuring that we can provide an atmosphere that will make you, our customers and artists, feel confident, comfortable and safe when we are able to see each other again.
We are continuing to issue refunds for cancelled shows and we thank you for your patience and understanding as this is all being carried out remotely and on a much reduced staffing level.
We remain optimistic about our future but these times are especially challenging and difficult for theatres and all the cultural industries. We are extremely thankful for all the support you have shown us so far and should you wish to offer a donation please visit our website for more details.
Please stay in touch with us – we continue to remain active on social media and it helps us knowing that you are with us.
